VHOLUME Speedrun Guide

Speedrunning is a first-class way to play VHOLUME — the game ships with built-in ghost recording, leaderboards, and a target-time system on every level. This page is your starting line.

How to Start Speedrunning VHOLUME

Unlike most indie parkour games, VHOLUME was designed for speedrunning from day one. You don't need a third-party timer or a community-tracked leaderboard — the game has all of that built in.

  1. Pick a level. Conapt Level 2 (Conapt04) is the community's current focus — it's compact, the route is contested, and world-record attempts are posted regularly.
  2. Run it clean first. Don't worry about time. Find the architecture: slopes, walls, slide setups, recovery points.
  3. Load a top ghost. Don't try to beat the ghost — follow it. The ghost will show you the actual line that you wouldn't have guessed.
  4. Optimize one section at a time. Practice just the wall bounce, just the slide-into-jump, just the entry angle.
  5. Submit your time to the Steam Leaderboard for that level.

Ghosts and Leaderboards

VHOLUME's ghost system isn't just a vanity feature — it's the most effective teaching tool in the game.

  • Record your own ghost on every run. Sharing it back to yourself is how you see where you lost time.
  • Race other players' ghosts. The game ships with Steam Leaderboards per level, and each top entry has a ghost you can race against.
  • Watch the line, not the speed. A top ghost shows you where to slide, where to bounce, which wall to hit. The speed comes from doing those actions at the right time, not from pressing buttons faster.
You might already know how to slide, how to wall-run, how to wall-bounce. Watching a top player reveals that you're performing those mechanics in the wrong places. That's where ghost racing becomes free coaching.

Where the Speedrun Community Lives

VHOLUME's speedrun community is small but active. Three places to look:

  • Steam Discussions — fastest-moving space; world-record announcements and route discussion.
  • Steam Community Guides — written route notes and per-level tips.
  • YouTube — top runs with annotations, comparisons, and route theory.

During the demo period, the demo reached a peak of 601 concurrent Twitch viewers with 78 streamers broadcasting it — the speedrun scene is real, just early.

Speedrunner Mindset (in 5 sentences)

  1. Don't fight the level geometry. Long slopes are speed generators, walls are springboards, low platforms may be faster routes.
  2. The fastest route is almost never the obvious one. Look up, look behind, look unreasonable.
  3. Every unnecessary wall-run, correction, landing, or change of direction is potentially wasted time.
  4. Think in straight lines. Mentally draw a line from where you are to the next checkpoint — the best route is the one that follows that line most closely.
  5. Remove one mistake per run. That's how routes become muscle memory.
